How to Manage Stress


Property management can be a highly stressful profession, with long hours, tight deadlines, and a never-ending list of tasks to be completed. However, it is important for property managers to find ways to manage their stress in order to maintain their physical and mental well-being, as well as their effectiveness in their job.


Prioritize self-care: One of the most important ways to manage stress as a property manager is to prioritize self-care. This may include getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising regularly. It is also important to take regular breaks throughout the day to clear your mind and relax.  There are many different meditation apps that can help with mindfulness.


Organize your time: Another way to manage stress as a property manager is to stay organized. This may include creating a schedule or to-do list for each day, as well as setting realistic deadlines for yourself. It is also important to delegate tasks when possible and to stay on top of your workload.  Task managers such as Trello and Monday.com are resources that can be used to help track core projects.


Learn to say no: Property managers are often pulled in multiple directions and are asked to take on more tasks than they can handle. Learn to say no to tasks that are not essential, or that can be delegated to others. This will help you to focus on the most important tasks and to avoid becoming overwhelmed.


Communicate effectively: Good communication is key to managing stress as a property manager. Make sure that you are communicating effectively with your tenants, landlords, and staff, and that you are setting clear expectations for everyone involved.


Take time for yourself: Be sure to take time for yourself outside of work. Whether it's going for a walk, reading a book, or spending time with friends and family, it's important to have a healthy work-life balance.  I enjoy running virtual races and going for long hikes as a decompression method.


Seek support: Lastly, don't be afraid to seek support if you are feeling overwhelmed. Talk to a counselor, a mentor, or a support group. They can help you to work through your stress and find ways to cope.
